“Zebras are in town” is a dance project that will be performed on crossings around Zrinjevac Park, and through its performance it thematizes numerous contradictions – maybe the most obvious is in fact the diversion of performers that is not necessarily oriented on age and sex, but on contemporaneous coexistence of various dance techniques during a performance, and so this dance game is performed by twenty-something dancers from 10 to 50 years old. Transferring theater form into an urban space and bringing in elements of everyday life into unusual situations are additional levels of dichotomy which builds this game. Just like the name of the project evokes duality – urban elements of a zebra as a pedestrian crossing in opposition to the animalistic, that is nature, wildness, uninhibited. So this project connects contemporary, technological, urban and static with the physical, fluid, sensible. The performance uses the already present fluidity of a pedestrian crossing to which it upgrades its old function and implements a new value, that is, it transforms it into a performance space, into an urban stage.
