8 July “Zebras are in town” performance will be held in Kotar FEST!-u.
“Zebras are in town” is a dance project that is thematizing a number of contrasts – the most obvious one being diversity of performers, not just by age and sex, but with co-exsistence of various dance techniques played by Tala Dance Center dancers aged from 10 to 50 years old. Transpositioning theatre form into the urban landscape, taking conventional elements into the nonconventional situations are some levels of dichotomy that constitute this game.
Duality is visible from the start – the name of the performance is trying to connect the urban element of zebra as pedestrian crossing with something natural, wild, unconstrained, just as this project is connecting contemporary, urban, technological, statical with physical, fluid, sensible. Performance is using an already existing fluidity of pedestrian crossing, upgrading his old function and implementing a new value, creating an urban stage. Although
performance space is public, sound remains private, unknown to audience, disregarded. Public space gets new element of culture as public, but also private good, at the same time playing with the question what happens when urban equipment becomes urban obstacle.
